My initial focus is making sure that my students can understand the concept of music as a language. Helping them realize that, like any language, the idea is to be able to speak it. But in order to do so, we have to take some time to establish, even if only on its most rudimentary level, and understanding of how it works. My classes are based on the experience level of each student, what their interests or goals are as musicians, working on their technique, and theoretical application.
I've been a musician for the vast majority of my life. I'm currently studying music at York University, more specifically in a jazz bass and guitar performance setting with roots in more technical genres ranging from rock to metal, math, and more experimental, ambient and avant-garde forms of music. I've been teaching professionally since October of last year, but have been giving lessons to friends and family for about a year before that.
