I love teaching languages because when one teaches English or a language other than English, one’s lessons extend beyond just the students. More times than not, one’s students will take what one has taught them and bring it home to teach their parents, younger siblings and maybe even their grandparents. It is incredibly rewarding to be making such a difference in so many people’s lives.
Teaching contextually is my preferred method. The contextual learning methodology acknowledges that understanding real-world connections to course content increases student engagement which often leads to increased persistence and successful transitions. The contextual approach recognises that learning is a complex, multi-faceted process that goes beyond drill-oriented, stimulus-and-response methodologies, that occurs when learners process new information in such a way that makes sense to them in their own frame of reference.
Online tutoring is one of the best part-time jobs for teachers like myself, who want to a flexible schedule, and work from home. I have been teaching online for the past 8 years with great results and I can also speak Portuguese and Spanish fluently.
I look forward to working with you!

I have known Mr PJ Costa, in my capacity as Company Director of our business consulting company, for a period of three years. I have found him to be committed and hard-working.
Mr Costa is a competent English teacher with strong work ethics. He possesses an open, accessible personality, and he is sensitive to the issues involved in cross-cultural communication as well as relationships at a professional level. I consider Mr Costa to be a very competent specialist in such fields as English language teaching methodology, educational technologies, language testing, assessment and material design. His research interests in applied linguistics are related to ESL teaching methodology.
Mr Costa coordinated and taught our business and general English group/individual classes, ESL online classes and domiciliary language one-on-one classes and wasresponsible for both developing and promoting our Cambridge Examination Department for international students wanting to gain access to Australian universities. He developed ESL teaching materials from a broad range of sources including books, academic journals, magazines, and newspapers. Under his supervision students and clients wrote
essays and research papers, gave oral presentations and debated on a large number of topics. In addition to teaching Mr Costa actively participated in extra-curricular activities.

I hold a 150-hour certificate in TEFL / TESOL recognized by the IRAC (International Recognition and Accreditation Council). In addition to my education, I have 12 years of teaching experience in Portugal, New Zealand and Australia.
I have been teaching for the past 12 years in public and private settings.
