My teaching approach is to involve the students as much as possible in their own learning. I want to encourage lots of interaction between learners and myself, and / or between two or more learners. I like to keep lessons moving with a variety of activities including the four key elements of language learning: listening, speaking, reading / viewing and writing.
I am an ESL /English Teacher / Trainer currently teaching Foundation Skills LLN to teenagers and adult learners. I am experienced teaching a very diverse range of language learners, both in their English language levels and cultural backgrounds. I have taught English skills to learners from kindergarten age to 3rd age learners including retirees.
If more than one student (of similar level) takes class, I will offer a discounted rate $50 p h for 3 or 4, $40 for 2 students. I am available between 4 - 7pm Mon -Thurs. and 10am - 1pm / 3 - 7pm Fridays.

Clients include immigrants from Non English Speaking Background, and local learners who had been disengaged from regular schooling.
CEA has changed my 2 day a week casual role into an ongoing PT 0.8 position, and learners note they appreciate my clear and simply-worded instructions and my efforts to get them more involved in their learning. They are pleased with my student-centred approach, as are Job Active companies who recommend students. As the sole SEE Trainer, I am acting as the area liaison between CEA training and local stakeholders.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect Teacher, Inclusive Curriculum and Enrichment Literacy Support Teacher Outcomes
Teach Years 7, 8 and 11 ESL, and team teach to provide intervention and support for Years 7 and 8 students with special education needs in the area of Literacy. As the Year 11 ESL is an OP subject, the course cannot be adjusted in content or assessment tasks, so my duty was to ensure students developed the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete set tasks. My genuine interest and adjustments to teaching approaches in both EAL/D and Intervention Literacy resulted in students improving their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to allow promotion into the next year level. Also, increases in motivation to learn and confidence have been highlighted.
With Year 11 ESL, I developed a strong rapport with the students, and all attained C –B+ final grades, able to continue their OP in Year 12.

Diagnostic testing of prospective students, and planning, delivering, and assessing training according to ACSF to meet the LLN component of the SEE (Skills for Education and Employment) Certificate. I was able to motivate learners to continue with these studies to meet the requirements of the SEE Certificate satisfactorily, and/or to transfer to specific training programs such as Security, Hospitality and Personal and Health Care through a HS VET course or with local RTOs.
I was able to design specific activities and assessment tasks to differentiate across a range of learning styles and standards, and helped develop the range of suitable and adaptive resources.
Previous work experience which has helped me to increase my knowledge and develop my teaching and training skills: teaching English and Literacy and supporting in Maths and Workplace Numeracy classes within the VET sector, and with Year 10 students in the Skill Centre of Palmerston SC, teaching ESL within DIAC Detention Centres for irregular arrivals, teaching ESL and English in International Schools in Japan, Brunei / Malaysia, and Dubai, and teaching mainstream English 7 - 12 over many years in Australia.
