Since Creative Writing, I believe, should be more enjoyed than learnt, I base most of my lessons on interesting articles to read and the context that drives such writing. Following a thorough discussion, I also give creative assignments such as essays, poems and plays to write, so students can have their own little taste of writing.
My teaching method is very patient but critical. I will provide personal resources in order to help you familiarise yourself with the subject and to confidently prepare you for assessments. These resources include summary notes, practice questions and sample essays.
First and foremost I want you to love the subject - so that's my first priority. Finding a subject enjoyable makes hard work much easier. Anything that you're struggling with I will address when the time comes, but generally we'll focus on how to analyse a text, essay writing, and research.
I am very easygoing and love to let my passion for literature and reading shine through my lessons. We will be reading excerpts from famous poems, novels, and short stories to really read in between the lines and analyze various texts. I'll make sure to make it interesting and include Youtube videos, online games, and real world problems that we will solve together.
It is my aim to help students and non-students to express themselves effectively through writing. Whether it be how to structure an essay, blog post, short story or thesis, I help them get clear on what they want to say and how to organise it on the page. I work from 9 Power Street, Southbank, Melbourne or online.
I follow the VCAA Victorian Curriculum framework to structure my lessons (just like your school teacher!). I aim to make lessons fun and engaging through various pedagogical teaching methods such as discussion, modelled learning and group work (if applicable). I am more than happy to tailor lessons to best suit your learning style (such as visual learning, ICT) if at all possible.
I want to help my students flourish as creative writers. Together we will work on the essentials of creative writing, such as: brainstorming, plotting, narrative structure, character development, drafting and editing.
I structure my approach around the needs of the student.
I encourage active learning with constant support, guidance and encouragement. My philosophy is that we work together to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I will meet with you face to face if possible and provide online support also.
For subjects in English literature, I like to provide students with the opportunity to read the texts and come to the lesson ready to discuss points, themes or motifs that stand out to them. I would encourage my students, especially for IB English, to practice writing as many commentaries as possible. I would provide them with the opportunity to do this during the lesson and also for homework.
I take a student-led approach by first asking students to come to me with what they need to work on. I first assess what the student knows and try to build from there, working together to extend their knowledge on a particular subject. We end the lesson by recapping what has been learnt and work together on a plan for the next lesson.
My approach to teaching English is by giving students a coherent and engaging structure through which they can complete their work.
I base my classes as interactive as possible. I like my students to have fun while learning and make the lessons memorable. To do this I will link my teaching to real life experiences and use many resources. I also like students to have active learning experiences rather than being 'talked at'.
I tutor according to your needs, moving at a comfortable pace and covering as many concepts as I can. I focus on clarity and simplicity, and need my students to be self-motivated and have the initiative to want to improve themselves.
My teaching method is centred around two principles: immersion and dialogue. Working with languages it is imperative to be comfortable with all aspects of communication (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
I try to make things as simple as they are. We often over-complicate our tasks and work, and I see it as my job — something I enjoy — to help students to develop basic strategies to get tasks done.
I like to believe that anything that is to be taught or learnt, has to be done slowly. I like to teach and read along or study along with the student aloud and slow. The method I believe to be the simplest and easiest way to teach and learn is to understand the concept through questions and as a story.
As a recent graduate from high school, I am offering tuition in all areas of English and Literacy, including essay writing, engagement with texts, reading, creative writing, handwriting and so on, at a primary and secondary school level.
I focus on the learner and diagnose where they're at, as well as work out where they want or need to be. I scaffold them to that endpoint. As a teacher I am enthusiastic and engaging, and make the lessons relevant to the student. My teaching style includes a lot of discussion. As a teacher I am fair, but I am firm.
I like to eat pho on the weekends, learn as much as I can through reading and podcasts during the week and when I’m not tutoring, risk my life getting my back taken in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I am a confident, kind, sensitive, earnest and enthusiastic communicator who is able to disseminate and make complex concepts clear and comprehensible.
English is highly subjective, and requires development of ideas and opinions rather than clear-cut answers. For this reason, my objective is to empower students to think through and present their ideas with confidence and clarity.
My teaching method is to condense information down to its most simple form and to work backwards from there. I treat exams and SACs as a game, with rules, that can be easy to navigate if you play it properly. No matter what class, information can be presented differently and visually, so I use diagrams and such to help to breakdown topics and themes.
Develop ESL skills for personal and professional environments including resumes and communication skills for career or residential opportunities. Develop English comprehension and response skills for VCE English, IELTS, PTE and other exams or assessments. Improve language communication skills and abilities.
I am a very patient teacher who can work with a range of ages (from primary to high school). I'm aware every child learns differently so i will often focus on how to best teach a child based on how they learn.
My lessons are for those who need quick methods of succeeding in writing high quality essays. Literature is a subject that can be easily mastered with the right help. I have wrote hundreds of essays in my time studying, so I know what is up.
I believe in helping students understand the ideas and principles behind what they are learning on a conceptual basis rather than relying on rote memorization. Ultimately the goal of tuition is to develop students who are capable and independent learners.
I endeavour to empower students by helping them cultivate confidence in their life-long learning abilities. I adopt a personalised approached to tuition, infused with patience, positivity and compassion. Given my multidisciplinary background, I strongly believe in the importance of learning to think, write and communicate creatively and critically.
I'm a friendly, creative and flexible uni student with 10 years of experience working with kids. I graduated in 2015 and currently study at the University of Melbourne.
