My ultimate teaching goal is for my students to enjoy playing the flute at the best of their ability. My lessons will focus on the fundamentals of technique so that students have a solid foundation to build their playing on. I hope to develop a passion and love for music in my students, providing guidance and musical knowledge whilst allowing them to play pieces of their choosing.
My teaching metod is focused on: -resolving the problems of every student with my experience in orchestra, in chamber music and in private lessons; -teaching how to improve your sound; -teaching of to sing and play at the same time; -understanding your skills and improving them.
My lessons are fun and as casual as possible. Depending on your goal in studying with me I will design your lessons so we reach that goal while working at a pace most suitable for you. From kids participating in school band programs to adults and teens wanting to learn Jazz, Blues or Pop I will create individual lesson plans to suite your learning style. AMEB on request.
I like to personalise my teaching method for each student. Each student has their own flare and own personality that shows in the instrument. I want to encourage students to find their own musical personality and to allow that to influence everything they play, whether it be scales/warm ups or pieces. As well as pieces, we will work on scales, posture, breathing, timbre, embouchure, and much more.
I plan and prepare my lessons in advance to cater for individual students needs and examination syllabus, while helping students develop a broader appreciation and understanding of music in a variety of styles through looking at theory, sight-singing, composition and other areas. I do my best to create a positive learning environment for students.
My teaching method is very encouraging, yet also pushing the students so they can perform at their best capabilities. I am happy to teach grades 1-4 any age, teaching them grades if they wish or just for leisure. The lesson structure varies from the capabilities of each student.

My name is Etta McEwan, I have 7 grades of flute under my belt. I attended Hunter School of the Performing Arts and received 97/100 for my HSC Music. I like to start with the basics of reading and technique before starting to tackle pieces of music. My lessons are geared towards beginners not intermediate or expert players.
I like to keep things quite relaxed and quite fun in the classroom. There will be lots of warm ups and games that everyone will enjoy. My lesson structure generally consists of 50% theory and 50% practical exercises. They all contribute to the student's skills and understanding of different aspects of music.

I believe that empathy is the key to a good learning enviroment, and being flexible towards the student's needs is what makes our time together an accomplishment. Body, mind, art, and emotions are all part of the music journey, and taking care of all these aspects is what will make you understand and go deep into music.
I aim for a friendly and interactive environment where students can freely interact and provide ideas. Flute lessons will include: warming up activities, technical skills, a range of repertoires, duets, opportunities to perform in front of an audience, and many more. I believe students achieve a great outcome when they enjoy learning.
My teaching method is all to do with positive reinforcement and encouragement. I like mixing my lessons up a little and doing half theory half practice, so not to get overwhelmed in one or the other.
