Due to my current university studies, I have an extensive portfolio of tips and tricks to facilitate engaging ways of improving student learning. My subject strengths lie in Maths and English up to a Year 8 level. I firmly believe in adjusting experiences to suit the learning style of the child to ensure successful knowledge transmission. My practice involves building vocabulary and conceptual understandings whilst also fostering problem solving skills. This ensures the student is able to apply learned understandings within a variety of scenarios, and not just the problem on a worksheet. I encourage students to consider where sources of further information may be found, so they engage with metacognitive processes useful throughout their student career. Attitudes such as learned helplessness (I can't do it, I'm not smart enough, I'll never use this) are overcome through my patience, tenderness and nurturing traits - qualities I employ to build positive rapport with my students.
I have no formal tutoring experience though, being as aspiring classroom teacher, you may be assured that I have the necessary understandings to help your child overcome their learning struggles. I have high commendations from my mentor teachers throughout all my pre-service practical experiences. Furthermore, last year I was a part of a volunteer multiplicative thinking program in a schooling community who regularly attain high NAPLAN scores. I worked within a team of 3, planning experiences, focuses and assessment strategies to build mathematical ideas underpinning important multiplication, division, place value and problem solving curriculum intentions within years 3, 4 and 5.
