With a B.Sc Degree in mathematics, I teach math (calculus, linear algebra, trigonometry) in Florianopolis or on-line to the world in a fun way!

Methodology

I have a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Scientific Computing from UFSC, as well as years of experience in private tutoring and teaching small groups. I teach math according to the student's needs, explaining each step and killing all possible doubts. Together we will solve all your lists of exercises, previous homework, and exams. I can suggest video lessons (available online), or fun trivia on the subject to enhance the learning of the contents seen in our classes.

Background

I began teaching mathematics when I started college and have now over ten years of experience. I have had many students, some with special educational needs, such as attention deficit disorder (ADD). And even with the individual limitations, each student has discovered some way to learn math and perform in the exams. And I learned from them as well, becoming a better tutor with every new success story. I believe that all people are capable of learning mathematics. Let's prove it !!!

Quando você começou a ter interesse por ciências exatas, mais especificamente por matemática?
Caroline M — Comecei a me interessar no segundo ano do ensino médio quando tive um professor de matemática apaixonado por dar aulas. Parecia que eu conseguia entender tudo que ele falava, era maravilhoso. Antes tinha ficado em recuperação em matemática na escola quase todos os anos. Ele me influenciou a cursar matemática no ensino superior, com toda certeza.

Qual matemático, fórmula e/ou teorema que vem primeiro à sua mente? Qual o significado desta resposta para você (seja este positivo ou negativo)?
Caroline M — O matemático é o Paul Erdős, tudo que leio sobre ele me faz acreditar que sempre é tempo de aprender e produzir conhecimento não importando a idade da pessoa. Ele foi um dos matemáticos mais produtivos de todos os tempos, produzindo publicações e participando de conferências até sua morte com 83 anos. Já as fórmulas e teoremas variam de acordo com o que estou estudando ou ensinando. No momento estou obcecada com Cadeias de Markov, mas mês que vem já pode ser outra coisa.

Você prefere álgebra ou geometria? Conte-nos mais sobre sua área favorita!
Caroline M — Na faculdade eu fui muito bem na disciplina de matemática discreta, que envolve probabilidades e distribuições. Nesse momento estou estudando muita estatística, regressões, séries temporais e estou apaixonada por essas aplicações.

Agora é o momento da confissão! Diga a verdade: você também já sofreu algum dia com a matemática… Como foi?
Caroline M — Nossa sim! Sofri muuuuuuuito. Quando eu era criança detestava muito. Decorar a tabuada foi um pesadelo! Mas depois comecei a sentir muito prazer resolvendo problemas, é maravilhosa a sensação de conseguir resolver um problema. Aqueles que parecem difíceis são ainda mais gratificantes. Durante a faculdade tive problemas de motivação porque não conseguia me adaptar a aulas ruins e algumas eram realmente horríveis, infelizmente, a maioria. Achava que era um problema só da UFSC, por Floripa ser uma capital pequena, mas depois de dar aulas para alunos (via Superprof) da USP, Unicamp, PUC, UFRJ, entendi que é um problema muito grande inclusive em universidades muito prestigiadas. O que fiz para superar essa dificuldade, já que não conhecia o Superprof na época, foi me agarrar a aulas disponíveis pela internet. Em alguns casos consegui encontrar aulas ministradas por professores que eram autores dos livros texto das disciplinas, como as do professor Gilbert Strang, de álgebra linear. Além disso, procurei ajuda psicológica porque professor ruim pode fazer o aluno acreditar que não é capaz de aprender e houveram momentos que fui contaminada por essa parasitose vetorizada por professor frustrado e duvidei das minhas capacidades. Mas sou teimosa e depois de alguns semestres criei anticorpos e sigo vacinando meus alunos e alunas.

O que você diria a um aluno que afirma que 'Bhaskara não serve para nada' ou que 'a matemática com um todo não serve para nada'?
Caroline M — Depende do aluno. Tem alguns que estão tão longe de um estado de poder aprender qualquer coisa que é melhor tentar entender se esse aluno foi tão incompreendido ou privado dos meios de produção intelectual que a melhor defesa que ele conseguiu verbalizar foi questionar a serventia de algo que é incompreensível para ele, e então com muito amor a causa e em doses que ele consiga processar, vou mostrando como é maravilhosa toda a matemática envolvida em todas as coisas do universo. Se o caso for um aluno que pareça racional, determinado e crente que só tem capacidade para "humanas", vou tentar mostrar com argumentos racionais que pelo menos pra ele passar no vestibular, a matemática vai servir, e que ele tem capacidade para compreender toda matemática do ensino médio, mesmo ainda não acreditando nisso.

Qual é a fórmula perfeita para ser um Superprof de matemática?
Caroline M — Acho que ensinar é uma experiência de empatia e paixão. Empatia pelo aluno que está aprendendo alguma coisa e paixão pelo que você está ensinando. Acredito que as pessoas só aprendem alguma coisa se existe curiosidade e prazer. Então, sempre que possível tento mencionar curiosidades interessantes sobre as matemáticas que estou apresentando, para tentar semear algum interesse (para além da necessidade) e cultivar o desejo de aprender para colher a felicidade nos resultados.
