Patience and engaging the student, praising efforts and rewarding with stickers. I provide my own resources. 'Homework' is provided, dependent wholly upon the child's own will to complete their set task/s, with no pressure or expectations placed on the child.
I like to encourage problem solving by saying 'What do you THINK that word could be?' (if the child pauses before a reading word) 'What does it look like it could be?' if it isn't quite what the child says (good try, well done for giving it a go)
I'm a qualified Teacher Aide, who has done some home-tutoring of single students, and singular and group readings at schools. I engage young school students in reading and story-telling, whilst using strategies to facilitate thinking and problem-solving. Make it FUN!
I take turns to read with the child and use as much expression as realistically possible, to make the story sound engaging.
