My current teaching method is to:
1) Hear my student play
and 2) help them out with what they need to improve their musical performance.
I enjoy using a step-by-step method to approach each problem students find difficult to overcome, so that a greater sense of learning and achievement has been earned by the student. I do expect students to be able to practice on a keyboard in their own time when I am not tutoring them. I will also send out educational material for students to learn after the lesson as a reading task to help improve their skills and ask them to fill out short answer questions.
During music theory, I also engage my students well with direct explanations about how the structures, forms, and time periods the pieces are in. If it is an exam they are studying for, a short 5-minute mock exam will be conducted after a few weeks to ensure the are retaining information from the previous lesson.
Hello! My name is Helen and I am currently a 2nd Year undergraduate student (going onto 3rd year) studying a Bachelor of Music at the University of New South Wales. I have experience in playing piano for at least 12 years and earned performance and theory awards from the AMEB and in my previous high school, Burwood Girls High School. I am currently still teaching private piano skills outside of university as well as attending courses in university to enhance my studio teaching skills.
There is an additional condition. If the student cancels a lesson 24 hours before a lesson is to start, they will be charged a fee of $10. Only special conditions are excepted.
