My method is highly personalised to each different student I have but in general, I like to break my lessons into 3 categories: technique, theory, and repertoire. This is indeed how I practice myself and I feel it incurs the greatest benefit for your time. This being said, with beginners I tend to focus far more on repertoire as I feel the first stage of learning music should be just that - learning actual music.
I have been teaching and performing for all of my adult life (currently in my 30s). I have a bachelor with honours from WAAPA. I play jazz, classical, and rock music. Am interested in helping people to find their own musical voice (everyone has one!) and nurturing it together to make them the best they can be.
