Philosophy and Gender Studies Student Turned Tutor Giving Classes on High School and Uni Level Gender Studies and Philosophy Subjects

Methodology

As a student of philosophy and people lover, I change my teaching method for each and every one of my students! Building a strong communicative bond with my students is the BEST way to make sure lessons are both productive and enjoyable for the both of us. I learn best when I feel like i'm being listened to and having fun, and I strive to make that so for all of my students!

Background

I'm a lifelong lover of the English language, reading, writing, and nitty gritty grammar has always been a favourite topic of mine. I studied 3 years of gender studies and philosophy at UQ and would love to share and tutor in the subjects I love!

Rates

Rate for online lessons : $25/h
Rate for 5 hours of lessons : $130
Rate for 10 hours of lessons : $250

Details

Im based in Redland Bay and dont mind travelling a bit to the student's house or a local library.
My rate is 50$ for a two hour lesson for high school, uni and ESL students, and 35$ for a 1.5 hour lesson for primary school aged kids.

ALSO! if you'd like to make a bi-weekly or weekly group lesson with siblings from different (or the same) grades or friends from the same subjects we can definitely make something work for that!

Eliot's CV

Small group and one on one tutoring is a passion of mine. When a student tells me about how our lessons have helped them in class or in life, my heart soars; and the students see and benefit from that tenfold!

I volunteered in an after school group tutoring lessons, helping grade 1-6 in their afternoon homework endeavours. These kids were from rougher backgrounds and homes that didn't have the time or resources to help complete their homework, so these weekly afternoon classes were jam packed with behaviour control, teaching material and games to break up the lessons for the younger kids. As much as it was hard work for both the students and the teachers, we all in all had a really great time every Wednesday!

Last year was a giant achievement for both me and my English as a Second Language student, Vy. Vy had been living in Australia for 6 years and had not learned enough practical English to communicate for more than a sentence or two; and I only had had experience in teaching English to kids who already knew English! But by working together and tailoring our lessons to her proffered learning styles, her English was improving in leaps and bounds! Within four months she and I were able to chat for our entire lessons about the weather, our weekends, her son's birthday party and she only kept on improving as we continued into the more difficult grammar and writing lessons.

I also structured and presented a tailored Computer Literacy curriculum to a group of elderly men and women who had recently migrated to Australia. This was a challenge for me as I have always taken for granted my computer skills. The class was very hands on, practical, and repetitive as to make sure the students understood the ways of a computer. I created instructional powerpoints and activities teaching the class about basic computer tasks such as using Microsoft word and Google, but we also went into resume building, job seeking and applying, and email etiquette. This was a wonderful experience for me, I truly adored spending the time with the people in the class and had an absolute ball creating and presenting the material.
