My teaching methodology revolves around helping students understand why things are they are in mathematics. Although it may take more time, a student can learn and apply more if they understand the concepts. It is important to break down concepts into smaller parts, understand the big picture, obtain a correct answer and, ultimately, be able to apply the concepts in life or other problems.
I like to cater to students' needs rather than merely teaching straight out of one textbook. I am a fairly laid back teacher, and am happy to progress at the rate my student feels is most comfortable. My teaching method is to work through examples with students, and gradually ease in more independence as they become more familiar with the method, until they no longer require any assistance with the task.
First of all, I think I am a very available person, ready to listen and meet the needs of the student. I try to be as clear as possible in the explanations and if the student don't understand the concept I find other ways to simplify it even more. I like to show my students that mathematics is not really difficult or sterile, but requires a mental effort that other subjects do not require.
