I mainly teach classically but happy to teach contemporary. I place a strong emphasis on sight reading and ensure my students have good aural skills. I teach from beginner to advanced and have had many successful AMEB students. I really enjoy my job.
In my lessons, I aim to focus on cultivating habits of using the correct hand posture and fingering, as well as combine rhythm and score reading techniques and sight reading training. A wide range of repertoire is used to keep the students interested and I always encourage them to bring in or speak of any genre of music they enjoy, and I love to play duets with students.
My classes are flexible to change to fit the needs and skill level of the student. I like to incorporate musical theory, practical lessons and aural testing to help the student thrive in all areas of music to easily transfer to other instruments or musical interests they may have. I allow for examination preparation or piano for leisure.
I teach mainly using my knowledge of the Estill technique. It’s based on the knowledge that our vocal muscles are just that - muscles that we can strengthen and gain control over, just like any other, to be able to produce the sounds we want.
Individual students deserve individual curriculum for teaching; I feel it is important to have a student first excited and engaged before extensive theory.
I like to base my classes on the way I learned piano when I was younger. No exams, nothing that puts too much pressure on your child as this can take the love of music away from a person.
I look for sheet music of songs that the students would like to learn, and teach them to read the sheet music and play the songs on the piano. Students will learn and practice the songs until they can play the whole song beautifully.
I attempt to have a fun approach to my lessons. A typical lessons with me will include of a 5-10 minute warm up, specificity chosen and adapted for the student. The rest of the lesson will then comprise of working on technique and songs. I try to work my lessons around the student making sure their enjoyment and goals are being reached by the end of each session.
I am a friendly, professional and musical individual who understands that the one lesson plan is not going to be suitable for each student. I tailor each lesson to you, but there will be a focus on vocal tech.
Piano tutoring: Beginner to intermediate level students. I have experience with AMEB exam preparation (up to grade 8) or school exam preparation (up to year 11). For students simply aiming to enjoy playing piano and reading music, I have developed engaging programs that fast-track your progress.
My music lessons are carefully arranged to fit your needs and interests. You can pick the songs and what you want to learn.
I teach contemporary music using music books from music stores and teach music theory as well. I begin my lessons with technical work like scales and then progress to pieces. I also can teach a little classical but only till Grade 2 AMEB. I have a Grade 6 AMEB Piano For Leisure and Grade 5 AMEB Theory.
I can do introductory lessons for multiple instruments, as well as advanced level music theory and composition lessons, aiming to transfer my personal understanding of music, as well as those commonly accepted, to young students in a patient and focused manner, encouraging independent development of one's own talents and skills.
Having completed my L.Mus.A, I know the ins and outs of the AMEB syllabus and will most certainly be able to tailor my lessons to the needs of you or your child. On your very first lesson, I will draft a lesson plan for the year which would be based on your learning goals for the year, so that we can both be on the same page about the progress of lessons.
