My teaching approach always considers the specific needs and experience of the student. From the basics in music theory and composition to more advanced subjects, I'll always make sure learning is structured and paced appropriately. You'll learn many of the theoretical aspects of theory/composition as well as growing your own unique approach to learning about and writing music.
I help students relate to key musical concepts by using pictures, diagrams, sentences and acronyms. Language is a key aspect in music theory. I will test their learning ability through constant revision and by testing them on a regular basis.
As a welcoming and personable coach and mentor, I have a genuine passion for helping people and leaving them happier than before. Outgoing and individualistic, I aim to make lucidity out of chaos from a lifetime of experience as an eccentric performer and musician.
I teach theory using the Master Your Theory and/or Blitz theory books, although I am happy to work with any other materials. While working through these books, I provide additional insight and offer alternative ways of thinking about the concepts presented. I offer lessons of any length, and am also happy to provide theory lessons alongside practical violin or viola lessons.

Individual students deserve individual curriculum for teaching; I feel it is important to have a student first excited and engaged before extensive theory.
I plan my lessons around the students needs, anything from school classroom music homework to nationally accredited AMEB exams. During my degree, I studied subject in the field of: composition, music business, performance, arranging, music technology and standard theory.
I teach concept based classes, go through examples and in depth step-by-step teaching and explanation in all key areas.
My teaching style adapts to the students learning style. I prefer to teach one-on-one so I can focus on each individual students learning requirements. I am able to simplify every topic so they are understood in their most basic forms. Once the basics have been understood, we can move at a faster pace. Basics are a strong foundation for greater knowledge.
I am very patient teacher and I want my students to develop their musical knowledge through learning to basics and later advanced music theory. We will start with getting and understanding for the role of different instruments through different genres of music. I'm very happy to have suggestions from studies or song that a student or a parent wants me to focus on.
Development of a healthy technical foundation including breath management skills, body awareness and style appropriate vocal techniques as well as the skills required to perform. A fun and relaxed environment for all ages and levels of experience to learn and achieve personal goals.
I believe there is no better teacher than experience, so my teaching method consists of a quick cover of the fundamentals of the topic at hand, followed by multiple exercises which the student(s) undertake under my supervision. This way, the student(s) gain a comprehensive understanding of how different practices are used in music and put it to use themselves.
I teach the Estille method of voice which places a large focus on the mechanical workings of the vocal chords and lungs. I also teach my students pieces of technique from other vocal practices. I am a firm believer in teaching correct vocal technique from a very early age.
Flexible and creative learning with a focus on intuitive and intellectual process in problem finding/problem solving, developing personal practice strategies in self and group learning contexts.
I prefer to learn what kind of learner my student is as soon as possible, so I can tailor the teaching towards what works best for them.
My teaching method is face to face. I like to use paper, theory, and techniques that suit the individual. I am a very flexible person and want to make you feel comfortable in the teaching environment. I love singing at the beach, in open outdoor spaces and in professional recording studios.
I like to start out slow by teaching the basics and helping kids to understand how the piano or violin works. First few times will be focused on musical integrity, posture and care of instrument. Most people love to learn new things and would start out fast, but I would teach them to get all the notes right first, before bringing any song or piece of music up to speed.
My approach to teaching is a mix between practical and theoretical learning. I believe everyone can reach their potential to learn if they apply themselves and I believe I am the right candidate to help steer them towards their goal. Whether it be learning to play the songs you want, or I provide a set list of songs. I would prefer to teach at home but I can do house visits.
My teaching method is mostly based on the AMEB Music Theory Books to prepare students for exams. I have completed Grade 5 AMEB with Honours and two years of Advanced Theoretical skills at UQ. I am more than happy to give lessons for beginners or for people with no musical knowledge.
I always offer my students chocolates or a cup of tea to make them feel welcome and confortable to express theirselves and trust, as it is very important that there is a trust relationship between tutor and student. We start the lesson with learning the technique, and then applying the technique on their favourite songs that they always love to play or sing.
My lessons teach music theory through practice, skills and technique in order to learn the language of music. I teach music literacy and theory through singing and piano. My lessons are ideal for learning music at an excellent level. You will leave my sessions having not only a well-developed knowledge of theory but singing and piano playing as well.
Try to encorporate an engaging yet fun approach to teaching my students with a nice friendly environment and an inviting methodology that will make you want to keep practicing! During my years learning Piano and Cello i struggled with keeping myself motivated, being a kid, it was tough.
My teaching methods will follow on from what my teachers and tutors have applied on me previously. I’m motivating and always please to have my students feel like they have learned something after a lesson from me. Most of the lesson will be practical with some theory to be taught.
I will get to know the students level of proficiency and how they best learn and plan the lessons from there. I will set homework which is achievable and therefore allows for the student to stay engaged and enjoying the lessons.
Struggling with your range or endurance vocally? Can't finish your songs or get them to sound as good as they do in your head? I've been there too. I'll come to you or you can come to me, we'll play, enjoy ourselves, come up with a plan and a strategy that suits us; and through mutual hard work, learning will ensue.
I first like to understand the student. What are your goals? What are your strengths/weaknesses? This is the perfect place to build from - use their strengths to help overcome their weaknesses, and become a passionate learner. Anyone can strive for success, with a bit of hard work and encouragement.
I like to keep things quite relaxed and quite fun in the classroom. There will be lots of warm ups and games that everyone will enjoy. My lesson structure generally consists of 50% theory and 50% practical exercises. They all contribute to the student's skills and understanding of different aspects of music.
I will encourage and inspire you to find your own 'voice' and discover any road blocks to your progress without copying other musicians. I want you to become an individual performer and discover your own talent with your chosen instruments. Be it percussion, woodwind, guitar or keyboard.
My focus is to promote interpersonal relationships with my students to foster an environment where the student feels safe enough to take musical risks to further their talent. This also helps the student to trust in the instructions I give.
