CIARA KIRBY I am a committed, hardworking student with a strong work ethic and friendly attitude. I am currently undertaking a bachelor degree in Arts at the University of Melbourne. I am enthusiastic and very interested in working with students of all year levels to help them achieve their best.
My approach to teaching English is by giving students a coherent and engaging structure through which they can complete their work.
I am very easygoing and love to let my passion for literature and reading shine through my lessons. We will be reading excerpts from famous poems, novels, and short stories to really read in between the lines and analyze various texts. I'll make sure to make it interesting and include Youtube videos, online games, and real world problems that we will solve together.
I want to help my students flourish as creative writers. Together we will work on the essentials of creative writing, such as: brainstorming, plotting, narrative structure, character development, drafting and editing.
My teaching methods are to encourage and motivate students through praise and reward based learning, ensuring content is fun and students are engaged.
I take a student-led approach by first asking students to come to me with what they need to work on. I first assess what the student knows and try to build from there, working together to extend their knowledge on a particular subject. We end the lesson by recapping what has been learnt and work together on a plan for the next lesson.
I am in my mid forties with wide ranging experiences. Utilising this, along with my long standing passion for literature and drama I am able to relate information to most students in a way that they can understand. I will ensure there is always an introduction, comprehension and confirm their comprehension of the subject is accurate.
I believe in helping students understand the ideas and principles behind what they are learning on a conceptual basis rather than relying on rote memorization. Ultimately the goal of tuition is to develop students who are capable and independent learners.
I'm a friendly, creative and flexible uni student with 10 years of experience working with kids. I graduated in 2015 and currently study at the University of Melbourne.
I provide a friendly, unimposing attitude to academia. By demonstrating the basic structures of an essay, ways to simplify and clarify and how to sift through ideas, I can help students learn to write confidently.
I focus on the learner and diagnose where they're at, as well as work out where they want or need to be. I scaffold them to that endpoint. As a teacher I am enthusiastic and engaging, and make the lessons relevant to the student. My teaching style includes a lot of discussion. As a teacher I am fair, but I am firm.
