During my years in Buenos Aires, I worked as an English teacher at the prestigious Holistic Institute of English, based in Buenos Aires. There, not only I learned how to teach but also how to do it with holistic, creative, learning activities. Moreover, I'm a music and art enthusiast and I usually include these as teaching tools.
I have 11 years experience tutoring students from High school, TAFE, 1st year university and adult bridging courses. I can provide many materials for exam preparation, including past papers from many of the top NSW school and provide effective study tips and techniques.
I based my classes on the topics given by each of the student's curriculum, given them the understanding and summary of what each topic is about. After grasping the idea, I will give them questions and ask them to finish them during the lesson. If needed, I will give them extra papers to be finished for homework.
I am usually a slow learner and therefore I know what it feels like to have the class zoom ahead while i try to catch up. Therefore, I plan on keeping a steady speed and make sure the student understands the content before moving on and eventually covering all key concepts.
I believe in ensuring that you have learnt the content rather than simply "teaching" the content. I can prepare you for the higher-order of thinking that is required to achieve the high end grades. This will ensure that you can comprehend the concept and be able to apply it to unfamiliar contexts instead of memorisation and regurgitation.
I will not say I strictly follow text books. But I do give extreme importance to the basics of any topic. If the building foundation is not strong enough, the whole building will fall down. I believe every student should be at least aware of all the approaches there is to a problem, and choose a solution most fit for the problem. I think that exercises the mind and expands knowledge.
