Freedom and humour are two of the most important things for me, both in teaching and in learning – these are the memories I find most humbling looking back on my own school experiences. The relationship between student and teacher is equally important and there needs to be space to allow for it to take place. I specialise in helping people take enjoyment in language.
I know each student learns differently and so my methodology changes from student to student. I am comfortable working with students who struggle, or need a little extra time and assistance. I understand that building confidence in a subject is just as important as teaching the subject itself.
I tailor my classes to the curriculum of every individual student, working on the key skills and constantly referring to the rubric and criteria.
I like to tailor my lessons to students' needs and individual goals - I am happy to help with homework, clarify school lessons, as well as provide extra relevant texts and resources if students would like.
I want to help my students flourish as creative writers. Together we will work on the essentials of creative writing, such as: brainstorming, plotting, narrative structure, character development, drafting and editing.
CIARA KIRBY I am a committed, hardworking student with a strong work ethic and friendly attitude. I am currently undertaking a bachelor degree in Arts at the University of Melbourne. I am enthusiastic and very interested in working with students of all year levels to help them achieve their best.
The lesson structure would begin with ensuring the core idea is fully understood, a brief overview of what the student interprets the work as, and any areas of concern they may have for themselves. It is my belief that effective education can be completed once there is mutual respect, communication and collaboration between the teacher and the student.
I follow the VCAA Victorian Curriculum framework to structure my lessons (just like your school teacher!). I aim to make lessons fun and engaging through various pedagogical teaching methods such as discussion, modelled learning and group work (if applicable). I am more than happy to tailor lessons to best suit your learning style (such as visual learning, ICT) if at all possible.
I uphold a structured methodology that prioritizes active learning, reciprocity & collaboration, and efficient time on task. I value students who are willing to actively engage with learning material, and who share & respond to ideas with innovation & ingenuity.
It is my aim to help students and non-students to express themselves effectively through writing. Whether it be how to structure an essay, blog post, short story or thesis, I help them get clear on what they want to say and how to organise it on the page. I work from 9 Power Street, Southbank, Melbourne or online.
My teaching style is to educate students in a fun and informative way. Lessons will be structured using learning objectives and information for the lesson will be delivered to address these objectives. Most recently I have taught adults (aged 20-50) about how to present themselves in media interviews using this method.
My teaching methodology is based on the student, the way a student can grasp knowledge easily. Also, I like to offer the knowledge in a more practical way so that students can retain it for longer periods in their minds.
When I teach a language I dont only stick to the grammar and all the rules I try to teach the culture and history of the country. I also attempt to make classes interesting by trying to focus on the oral and the reading.
I'm a friendly, creative and flexible uni student with 10 years of experience working with kids. I graduated in 2015 and currently study at the University of Melbourne.
I'm an easy-going, high-achieving Arts student with a focus on Literacy, Education and History. I game in my spare time and function as a night owl. I offer fun, relaxed sessions aiming to help anyone struggling with English, writing or anything to do with the very complex English language.
I have read many books throughout my life in many different genres and have also studied English and Literature while I was in school. I will be able to pass my knowledge of those subjects on to whoever need it.
I encourage active learning with constant support, guidance and encouragement. My philosophy is that we work together to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I will meet with you face to face if possible and provide online support also.
I want to encourage self-learning, and I believe that any student has the capacity to excel. I believe that every student has their own learning style, and I would be honoured to guide a student to their full potential.
My teaching methods are to encourage and motivate students through praise and reward based learning, ensuring content is fun and students are engaged.
I take a student-led approach by first asking students to come to me with what they need to work on. I first assess what the student knows and try to build from there, working together to extend their knowledge on a particular subject. We end the lesson by recapping what has been learnt and work together on a plan for the next lesson.
I am a teacher by profession and still works (though I am currently on study leave from my home country since I am doing Masters here in Australia) in a high school. I have been teacher for 11 years and my teaching subjects includes English and History.
The most important thing for me to do is establish sound rapport with my students. I understand how difficult this time can be and I want to make this transitional period as smooth as possible. Once this is achieved mutual respect can be built and education progress can be made.
As a literature student and an English tutor i always strongly encourage analytical writing. In my lessons i always encourage students to think analytically, to try and see things from various perspectives, but, most importantly, to learn how to justify one's opinion or approach with relevant textual evidence.
I believe in helping students understand the ideas and principles behind what they are learning on a conceptual basis rather than relying on rote memorization. Ultimately the goal of tuition is to develop students who are capable and independent learners.
I have been on numerous placements at schools and during these experiences I have been able to express my own pedagogical philosophy. In doing this, it has caused me to yearn for more opportunities to help people learn. I really would find this experience meaningful for my future career and hope that you consider me.
My teaching method encourages the student to be creative on confident with manipulating their own language to inform and justify their points in English. I am very relaxed, easy going and allow to the student to go at their own pace before pushing them above and beyond.
I majored in both Literature and History during University, and followed that up with a DipEd (High School). I have a number of years experience working as a private tutor, and love the challenge of helping my students succeed.
I like to eat pho on the weekends, learn as much as I can through reading and podcasts during the week and when I’m not tutoring, risk my life getting my back taken in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
My lessons are for those who need quick methods of succeeding in writing high quality essays. Literature is a subject that can be easily mastered with the right help. I have wrote hundreds of essays in my time studying, so I know what is up.
