My teaching methodology is objective-based and student-centered. I like to start my lesson with the clear aims and then I keep the students engaged to show them how we are achieving each objective while progressing through the lesson. I prefer continuous involvement of the students and always welcome their questions.
I believe that there is no single way of learning that caters for every student. I try my very best to cater for these unique learning styles by communicating with my students what they really need, such as clarifying concepts or guidance on challenging questions.
I am a PhD (Civil Engineering) candidate at the University of Wollongong and have a passion for research and teaching. I would say practice and repetition are essential to mastering Mathematics, and the basics and fundamentals of maths are often overlooked in Years 11-12 as it becomes expected knowledge.
I will first look at the students current course work, and will make a specialized lesson plan to help them succeed. Practice is the most important thing to do when struggling with such an abstract subject as math, so I will make sure my students drill the topics that they have the most difficulty with.
As a current university student, it was not too long ago that I was completing high school myself. This allows me to have increased knowledge of how students in this position think and act. I believe the best way to learn is through questions and this will be the majority of any of my lessons.
