I access whom I'm tutoring, their interest in the instrument as well as encouraging them to devote time to theoretical side of music which should then stimulate them into how music works and if they pick up that their interests are liable to branch out to other instruments as well. The guitar is just the tool to make the music.

My Name is Samuel, I'm a current Music Student studying Jazz Guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. I am a teacher who has a passion for teaching, with patience and responsibility. My teaching method is theoretical and practical and always seeking to interpret songs of interest of the student.
Using a Reggio Emilio philosophy of utilising the student's interests to advance in playing and reading music for guitar and percussion.
I primarily gear my lessons towards those who are willing to learn and practice. However my course would depend on the desired genres which the student is wishing to learn. For more classical/jazz/blues related genres I would mostly encourage sight-reading practice in addition to genre-specific techniques such as finger picking, complex chords, non-conventional time signatures, etc.
I tend to be more practical, less of theory. Music should be fun and enjoyable. Hence, I usually expose students immediately to songs that are applicable and relatable to make learning enjoyable. I believe their knowledge and skills improve better when we play songs straight away.
My teaching style is very individualised to the student I teach. Every student has their strengths and weaknesses so for some students I might have to focus on music theory, some may need help with guitar technique and others may need help in musical expression and performance.
I try to demystify some of the confusion arising from learning an instrument by giving students opportunity to enjoy music making for its own sake, both at the lesson and at home. At it's heart, music is a common language, and learning of it should be accessible to everyone.
You will learn the way you want whenever you wish. I can teach you a bit of music history, as well as some theory music behind the practical stuff you will be doing, so that will show you a better idea how the pieces of music comes from.
My lessons are geared towards students of any genre and level as I have experience working in a wide range of settings.
- Lessons are customised to suit every individual students goals and requirements. - Tuition needs to be a fun challenge & genuinely engaging to be effective. - Learning materials and student specific practice plans are supplied.
