My teaching method is very interactive and I provide constructive feedback as part of encouragement of student learning. I make sure that students understand and are confident with new knowledge. I provide ample opportunities for students to apply their learning .
I teach chemistry as well as general and advanced math. For lessons, I go through weekly material with students, and focus on areas which they appear to be struggling. i help with homework questions by working through problems alongside the student. i guide the student to the answer, rather than give it to them outright, and make sure to test their understanding of new concepts through repetition.
My philosophy in the classroom is centred around students achieving their personal best in a positive and supportive learning environment. I recognise that all students are different; their learning styles are different, their interests are different, and they are all going to achieve to a variety of levels.
My PASS classes I held had a lesson plan, but was entirely flexible depending on what the students wanted to cover in that lesson. These worked best when students brought problems they were struggling with, as they were more engaged during the lesson.
Before the lesson I would expect the student to tell me the area they wish to look at that week. I would read around this area, therefore being prepared for the class. At the start of each lesson, we would spend a short time reviewing what was said the previous week.
During my PhD study, I was well trained to give my ideas clearly via eye-catching PPT slides and effective presentations. These skills prepare me well in teaching, especially in explaining complex concepts with simple and vivid styles. I adopt distinct teaching strategies for different students based on their own learning habits.
In order to teach something effectively, you yourself must know the content wholeheartedly. Being able to break down complex processes into simple terms which people can understand. That is my approach to teaching, first I make sure I completely understand what I am teaching, then think of ways to break down any complicated concepts into easy to understand steps.
