Hi! I'm a first year uni student who has just completed VCE in 2017 with an atar of 95.90. I teach physics mostly, but also chemisrty and mathematics to high school students who need a bit of extra help in class or have a focus on improving their study techniques in order to achieve high results.
For lessons, I aim to go through weekly material with the students, and focus on areas which they appear to be struggling, namely using their textbook and unit outlines. I will help with homework questions and give direction and advice on assignments, mostly working through problems alongside the students.
First I listen towards the ideas students have on particular topic to make them feel comfortable and then explain the topic. I would love to use different examples, experiments and visual outlook before providing lectures on specific topic. For me, maintaining good relationship students and creating friendly environment is the first priority.
Students will be instructed clearly on the subject material, then made to do examples until they've gotten the concept fully. As a student myself, I have found 'cheat sheets' (constructed based on an "ideal" answer) to be helpful, and students will be given the opportunity to make their own/view mine instead of searching for answers through a clutter of textbook/online resources.

I always try to start the lessons by analyzing what the student already knows and what is needed to accomplish the level wanted. This takes only 5 or 10 minutes. Next, I explain the theoretical concepts and give some practical examples to make everything easier to understand. Finally, it is very important to be sure that the student has understood the whole lesson by doing exercises.

Personalized approach to suit the students pattern of thinking. The same concept can be interpreted diversely, it is often this that makes a student fall back as they simply don't understand the tutors interpretation of it. This is why I consider it important to follow a personalized approach not just for the student in question but from concept to concept.
