I teach students by observing their way of learning first and then changing my teaching ways to suit their learning habits. I usually start off with warm ups and technical work and then we do pieces. I also have patience and let the student try overcome challenges themselves first with a little bit of help to let them become more independent.
The methodology is changed according with the student's profile and your motivation, but basically in the cello I started with the basic technique, since posture until playing and reading sheet music.
