I like to go through content methodically, and in a way that makes sense, time-wise. I start by teaching practicality - the first stepping stones you would need if you were in an actual, face-to-face scenario. Then come casual conversational skills, then you go further into the correct composition of phrases and tenses, then you can begin incorporating even more vocabulary, and more cryptic tenses.
