Lessons can take place on online platforms such as Skype or chat.
I want to help people master the daily communication in Chinese. We will start from Pinyin, which is the basic of Mandarin, and then goes to words/sentences. I will use some Chinese movies/books/TV shows to help you understand the REAL CHINESE . What's more, we can chat with all my Chinese friends to practice and reinforce what we learn.
After identifying your learning goals, in line with your course requirements, and listening to you, I will set a few questions to identify what you already know and where your weaknesses are. I use a lot of questions to prompt thinking and check understanding. I can patiently revisit things as required. I also find online resources you can use in your own time to help your learning of key concepts.
I like to tailor my lessons to the student, and am flexible in this regard. I am a fan of problem-based teaching, where I not only teach theory to students but also work out problems and think about situations with them.

I believe as a tutor we are not only required to teach academic subjects but also to instill self-confidence in our students to believe that they are able to excel. Therefore, my lesson plans are specifically tailored to each students learning method so as to be able to understand how they process information and are able to learn and benefit.
First I listen towards the ideas students have on particular topic to make them feel comfortable and then explain the topic. My lesson plans will be geared towards the particular student in order to help them in the topic they need help with. My rule is to first get to know the student so that they feel comfortable learning with me and are willing to be honest about what they can and can't do.
Students will be instructed clearly on the subject material, then made to do examples until they've gotten the concept fully. As a student myself, I have found 'cheat sheets' (constructed based on an "ideal" answer) to be helpful, and students will be given the opportunity to make their own/view mine instead of searching for answers through a clutter of textbook/online resources.
I have a lot of swimming experience from swimming for over 10 years. I will base the lessons around the students strengths and weaknesses. Their goals will be a very important factor if they are older. With the younger students i will base the lessons around the learn to swim criteria that I have previously taught to my 4 to 7 year olds.

Lessons are informal and comfortable. I help explain things that are misunderstood and together we can work through examples and past exam questions. It is best for you to bring your own notes and any assessments or practicals so that we can go over them together. It is a very good idea to start going over past papers well in advance before exams.

I am a fairly calm and relaxed teacher and I adjust my teaching method to accommodate my students' needs.
