I like a practical but also theoretical approach to learning guitar. I find it important to have the physical skills and basic fingering down first, then build some musical theory and reading knowledge so as to create a base for later improvement. I find listening an essential part of learning music as well and find it is important for the student to learn through their ears.
I am a first year university student, hoping to study a diploma of music, having played guitar for over 6 years, spending 2 years learning under jazz musicians. I have played in a rock band for 3 years, and also played in my high school big band, competing nationally and placing second in our division.
