Hello, my name is Craig and I am a professional drummer and educator.
After receiving my degree in Popular Music Performance at Tech Music Schools (now known as BIMM) and gaining experience as a professional London based drummer I have a lot of knowledge to pass down to anyone who wishes to have lessons. I am a regular on the function circuit playing numerous weddings and corporate events all over the country. I also have a bunch of festival experience around Europe with the furthest performance being a festival in Los Angeles, California.
At university I also studied Music Teaching at great length which provided an invaluable insight into the art of teaching music. Teaching is a great passion of mine behind playing this instrument. It is the most rewarding feeling seeing students progress and passing on the gift of music to aspiring drummers. I provide all material and facilities in house completely free and tailor each lesson specifically to the student. From my experience teaching, the lessons really do depend on what you want from music in combination with what I think would be most beneficial to your ability and musical taste. From beginner to advanced lessons I can cater for complete novices, someone picking up the sticks again and people wishing to really push the boundaries behind the kit. If it is simply a hobby you want your son or daughter to pick up, or you want to take your playing to the next level I will have something for you.
To get the best results it is crucial to receive lessons from teachers who have been involved in the industry to a certain degree with significant experience behind them. Some private tutors provide limited tuition by teaching from a set grading scheme of material who may also not have the necessary wisdom to provide you with real applicable skills to take you further. I can assure you I bring something new and invigorating to each lesson with every new topic we focus on being relevant in today's musical environment.
Lessons are priced at £25/45 min in a purpose built space for teaching located in my home address. This includes ample space for parents / guardians to relax while they wait for the lesson to finish. There is plenty of parking around the area also if you have to travel by car. Lessons can also take place in the comfort of your own home if you have the facilities, travelling to your house is absolutely fine if you prefer. In some case teaching the student on their own set up is beneficial as it builds their competency using their own equipment.
The first lesson I deliver will be free, this is to gauge what level your playing is at and also gives us a chance to become acquainted with one another and to see if the service I provide works for you. I also work using a referral scheme so If you refer me to a friend at any time I will give you a free lesson for every friend you recommend me to! I am also more than happy to look at block booking discounts if you were to pay for many lessons up front as some students / families prefer this.
Please check out my website for more information on the lesson outlines and also a couple of free taster lessons for complete beginners! Please do not hesitate to get in touch I will be more than happy to help you start your next drumming adventure.
Craig is a North East based drummer with a passion for teaching and playing music. Born in South Shields, he spent his early years playing in the South Tyneside Youth Orchestra, The Young Sinfonia (Sage Gateshead) and various percussion ensembles. Alongside this he performed regularly with tribute and original bands on the northern circuit from a young age.
Craig moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools from which he graduated with a 2:1 (hons). His time spent at TMS gave him valuable knowledge in advanced techniques and stylistic vocabulary behind the kit as well as the tools to teach this to others.
Whilst living in London Craig earned valuable experience touring with established bands as well as gaining useful recording experience. As an educator he has the skills and techniques to instruct drummers all across the board and has a particular interest in seeing students grow and develop. Between gigging abroad and teaching he is a regular on the function circuit playing in bands for weddings and corporate events. Highlights of his gigging career have seen him perform in places such as: California, London, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Slovenia, Croatia, Holland and Switzerland.
Craig also spent a year being an Assistant Manager in the Hire Department at Bell Music. This gave him a unique insight into the music industry by working closely with Britain's most professional percussionists and drummers. He hired equipment out to many different clients, including: Abbey Road Studios, Coldplay, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Air Studios, Sting, Peaky Blinders and the BBC Proms.
