I like to target areas in which the students highlight on their own as a weakness. Once these weakness are established, one is selected for the lesson. Firstly, the fundamentals will be gone over in depth before working through problems (external problems and problems given in class) . After this, any problems the student is stick with in school will also be explained. Along the way, exam and study techniques will also be discussed and taught.
