I base my classes on trying to figure out what the students lack in and increase their exposure to different kinds of literature available. For example, the students that I taught had trouble writing Chinese composition because they had a limited vocabulary and phrasings. Thus， I decided to bring in different types of literature available from the school library or from my own home. Since they were mostly children, I incorporated some fun and interesting activities to increase their motivation to study such as reading out a part of a story to them and emphasizing some useful phrases that the author wrote. To my surprise, a week after I left, their teacher got back to me and exclaimed that their overall composition performance had a slight increase and wanted me to continue teaching. Since my shifts as a salesperson were more desirable, I declined.
Hi, I am a Malaysian student and after completing my SPM (equivalent to year 12 in Aus) I applied for a substitute teacher job in a primary school back in my hometown Sibu. I only taught Chinese and English for a week since I had applied for another job as a saleswoman and was accepted. However, I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the kids in class and there was recognized for the ability to increase student participation and enthusiasm in learning through interesting activities conducted throughout each lesson.
