Thanks to my 15 year stay in the UK, I am well-versed in almost all cutting-edge methods of teaching Greek (both Ancient and Modern). I do not treat Ancient Greek as a 'dead language', but as a system of linguistic structures and thought that bears surprising similarities to the English language! As for Modern Greek, well, I refrain from focusing on the cliched methods that intimidate foreign learners (mind you, native ones too!) with the exhaustive spelling and grammar rules. The key, in my view, is to follow a comparatist approach between the common elements shared between the target language and English.
I have been teaching Modern Greek as a Foreign Language for 15 years (GCSE, A-Levels) in numerous and prestigious educational institutions in London. All of my students scored high in their exams. Adults students enjoyed my classes, too. Overall, it has been a fascinating journey to reciprocal knowledge (I learned a lot from my British students, too).
