Art, drawing, painting, sculpting. Highly experienced in a variety of subjects, and a fully qualified tutor/assessor. Based in Barmouth, Wales.

I combine my teaching style between demonstration and encouragement of the student. It is important that the student is engaged and challenged, they must be guided to learn and improve their skill sets. I can structure the lessons to match the individual learners requirements and have regularly taught up to Levels 3/4 on varied curriculums.

I have spent most of my career working in TV and Theatre as an artist, utilising my artistic skills. I moved into teaching approximately 8 years ago and have taught extensively in prisons, colleges and for the WEA. I now own my own studio in Barmouth, Wales.

Personal Descripiton
I am Computer literate, proficient in MS Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Adobe creative programs such as Photoshop, Audition, Premier Pro etc. Also familiar with MAC systems. I am a Writer, Artist, Sculptor, FX Make up expert, Designer, have publishing skills. Presenter. Tutor. I’ve always enjoyed Badminton, Cycling, Reading, Poetry, Creative Writing, Music, Cooking, Gardening, Sculpting, Artwork, Theatre and the Arts. I have also pursued politics and have been an elected Town Councillor on Shifnal Town Council.

Current- Moved to Barmouth, Wales where I now run my own studio.

2016- Workied as a sessional tutor for the WEA and TCAT (through Protocol) delivering a variety of art and creative writing courses. Recently appointed onto the Regional Committee of the WEA.

February 2011 to 2016- HM Prisons/Manchester College/Milton Keynes College.
Having facilitated many creative workshops over the years I was employed by Manchester College as a creative writing and art tutor, working initially part time at HMP Shrewsbury with offenders. In July 2011 I was offered a similar position at HMP Drake Hall. This position developed to the point where I was running the Art Dept at Drake Hall and gained self cert status within six months of delivering a variety of Creative C&G courses. During this time I expanded my personal development as a tutor by taking the PTTLS, TAQA and PEARL courses along with a variety of work related courses needed when teaching in prisons with vulnerable adults, covering both prison and teaching based requirements.
I have taught a number subjects during my time working in HM Prisons; Art, Sculpting, Ceramics, Business Enterprise, Creative Writing and Inductions and the embedding of Functional Skills. I have worked with some extremely challenging individuals, From Young Offenders to offenders past retirement age, who have suffered abuse and had a number of personal, mental and learning issues. I had a high pass rate with around 98% of my students attaining good grades. During this period I wrote and planned the courses, assessed, as tutor and IV, the students work and managed the students’ development programs, also adapting the courses to meet the differing criteria of other awarding bodies.
Milton Keynes College took over the franchise in 2012 and employed me in the same role.
In May 2013 I also won the role of Writer in Residence in HMP Drake Hall working with the offenders to deliver the community magazine for the prison. I also facilitated their involvement in other writing projects such as the Koesler Awards and Poetry Slams.
There have been a number of changes in the delivery of education in prisons over the past few years, primarily the LSA funding requirements, resulting in the phasing out of the creative subjects, ultimately leading to my being made redundant in December 2013 by Milton Keynes College following the cancellation of all the art courses (despite my success rate). I am still the Writer in Residence at HMP Drake Hall (part time), employed by NOMS. I also currently pursue various self employed business and writing/creative projects.

NB: I have been predominantly self-employed/freelance for most of my career, hence the following is summarized.

2010- Walford and North Shropshire College: Taught Creative Writing.
Elected as a Shifnal Town Councillor Sept 2010.
Instigated, managed and chaired the first Shifnal Arts Festival.
Instigated and edited Shifnal’s Community Newsletter, The Scroll.

2008- Worked as a freelance writer/consultant for a number of companies, including Learning Links International and Persuaders, roles included script writing, event management and more. With Learning Links I managed a number of community cultural art events and still work with them to the present on a freelance basis.
Facilitated Creative Writing workshops in various areas, including further education and mental health.
Codsall Community High school: Taught Arts Awards one day a week.

2007- Formed the publishers Breeze Hayward Publishing with a colleague.
‘Silent Solitudes’ a collection of my poetry is published.
‘Naked Therapy’, an Audio CD of my poetry is released.
My poetry is taught in schools in New Jersey and my CD features in a living exhibition of poetry at the Poetry House in New York.
To coincide with the 30th anniversary of Marc Bolan’s death, I re-worked and extended my original book and republished it as a Special Edition titled ‘The Wizard’s Gown’ It has met with overwhelming praise, not only from fans and critics but also Bolan’s family, friends, colleagues, and even his girl friend Gloria Jones. As a result of which I was asked to recite at the special commemorative service for Marc Bolan, held at Golders Green London and at many other events held in tribute to the star.
Radio and TV interviewed me extensively about this book and my other work. As a result of one of these interviews I was asked to develop and present my own regular radio program based on poetry for WCRFM, and did so for nearly three years; I wrote produced and presented the show entitled ‘Page One’.
Appointed the Shropshire East representative for the Poetry Society.

2005 - Signed to publishers, Aureus. My first book was published, ‘Beneath the Wizard’s Gown- Marc Bolan Unglittered’.
I compiled my first collection of poetry, ‘Silent Solitudes’ and worked with musician Rob Cairns on the project, ‘The Rock and Roll Poetry Train’ which was a ‘theatrical’ concept combining music and poetry in a dramatic, thought provoking way. We performed the show around Shropshire. Rob and I have also recorded a number of tracks and are close to completing our first album. We are developing ‘The Rock and Roll Poetry Train’ further.
Along with local Poets, I formed a poetry collective, Spoken Worlds and we performed at venues around Shropshire on a regular basis, all of which I promoted and managed.
I was writing a number of books, children’s and adult fiction, which are soon to be published.

2002- I expanded my career in a creative direction, developing freelance writing and production areas. I also fertilized the growth of my own projects, one being the forming a production company, my role being the Creative Director, with two colleagues, Picture It Productions, which was affiliated with the Picture It Group and based in London NW10. We completed the shooting of a children’s television drama that I had written and directed, which was then submitted to commissioning editors.

2001- I was engaged for a short period to manage a small Independent Television facility on a Freelance Consultancy basis. When I initially took on the role, the facility was dormant, in less than six months I had organized and consolidated most aspects of the studio and its resources, sub-letting areas and pulling in various productions and production companies, enabling a strong base to move forward, I believe it is still developing well.

1992 - After more than ten years, my previous business Stageworld, had reached saturation point and it was decided to divide the business.
I moved forward with my own company, ‘The Workshop’. Based in Wolverhampton, ‘The Workshop’ specialized in designing, making and supplying custom made costumes, props, puppets, sculptures, prosthetics, animatronics, and special effects make-up etc for the Entertainment industry, including Television (primarily), Theatre, Theme Parks, Advertising, Promotion and the Leisure industry in general. Producing work on a regular basis for people such as Ken Dodd, Joe Pasquali, Steve Cougan, Ronn Lucas, Bobby Davro, Frank Skinner, Timmy Mallet, Chris Evans and an extensive list of production companies from the BBC to Ginger Productions.
During this time I also created and marketed limited edition replica bronze sculptures of personalities such as Steve Bull, Jim Clarke and Princess Dianna.
I also facilitated a variety of workshops for colleges and theatrical groups.
As the business developed I found opportunities arising for me to become involved in many areas of production and being resourceful found it easy to adapt to those roles. Initially being commissioned by clients to create characters: my writing as well my artistic skills were being called on.
Combining my commercial business experience with my creative skills and Television experience, I found myself scripting and producing commercials, (TV and Radio) and in house videos for a variety of companies (Such as Home Services and Black Country Colleges), also acting as a Freelance writer producing corporate articles for many PR companies. From this point I pursued that area of work more and more.

1981 - As well as being academically astute and resourceful, I have always possessed strong artistic skills and a creative imagination. I therefore favoured a career in the arts rather than the previous careers of Butchery and Civil Engineering.
With my entrepreneurial skills also coming to the forefront I formed a partnership and moved into the Television, Theatre and the Entertainment Industry by creating a company known as Stageworld. Based in Wolverhampton, Stageworld specialised in the design, making and supplying of costumes, props, puppets and everything else within that field for the Entertainment Industry (for hire or sale). Stageworld also incorporated a Dance and Drama School and a Retail outlet.
It was at this time that I also became involved in the Wolverhampton Chamber of Commerce, being a leading member of the committee responsible for formulating an approach for the regeneration of Wolverhampton’s City centre and retail trade, the results of which are now being reaped by the City. Also being an active Round Table member, this was the period that gave me the roots for my contacts in the local business community.

1980 - Sold my butchers business doubling my initial investment.

1977- Purchased my first business, ‘Old Farm Butcheries’.

1975 - Moved from Tarmac and entered full time employment in a family butchers business that I had worked part time in since the age of 14.

1973 - Joined Tarmac Construction and trained as a Civil Engineer attaining my ONC in Civil Engineering.

At the age of 13 I was an accomplished artist taking private commissions and began writing; continuing to write extensively throughout my early life and beyond, my poetry being published in newspapers, magazines and anthologies.
