Adelaide Chemical Engineering 2012 graduate with 4 years professional experience as a Metallurgist in the mining industry

I have 4 years professional experience as a Metallurgist in the minerals processing industry, which took me to over 10 mines in Australia; mining metals such as copper, lead, zinc, nickel, silver and gold. I am able to provide technical knowledge in the grinding and flotation aspects of minerals processing, as this is where my technical knowledge has been developed in so far. I also have extensive industrial laboratory experience in these aspects of minerals processing and a strong chemistry background.

If you cannot make a lesson, please try to inform me at the earliest possible time.

I teach engineering, metallurgy. For the level(s)primary school, early high school, year 10, year 11-12, TAFE, undergraduate, diploma/certificate, masters, phd.
I give lessons in person, at my home or the student's home.
I give lessons by Webcam.
I logged in, the last 2 weeks.

Scott's Experience

I am relatively new to the tutoring field, having only tutored a couple of high school mathematics students back in 2010. However, I am very patient and have a wealth of technical knowledge from a professional background that will be beneficial for anyone embarking on a career in the minerals processing industry.

CAREER OVERVIEW and KEY STRENGTHS
The challenges thrown towards you in life should always be seen as opportunities to learn and grow.

I pride myself on remaining positive and focussed on the job at hand while achieving the business results that are expected of me. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work within industrial mining research laboratories and also challenging myself by applying these skills out in the field on a regular basis.
Analysing and reporting of the data from this research work and applying it to suit the needs of the client is absolutely paramount. This has helped immensely through working with a team of like-minded people to get the most successful outcome for both the business and client.

I believe my key strengths are:
• Ability to critically think to achieve the best result;
• Agile learner with thorough researching skills;
• High level computer skills including Excel, Word and Powerpoint;
• Highly organised with an ability to prioritise tasks;
• Flexibility to travel and work within different environments;
• Ability to take on feedback and apply new knowledge;
• Working collaboratively within a team;
• Manage stress and create balance within the workplace;
• Emerging leadership qualities in guiding co-workers and respectfully communicating clearly and concisely;
• Asking the right questions to ensure I remain productive and efficient; and
• Highly focussed on delivering accurate technical reports with a strong attention to detail that reflects the customer requirements.

I am an avid traveller in both my professional and personal life to all parts of Australia and the world, while also passionately following AFL and enjoying time with family and friends.

CAREER HISTORY
January 2014 – November 2017 Project Metallurgist
Magotteaux

Magotteaux are an international company making wear components for the cement, mining and service industries. The Downstream Processing (DP) team conduct laboratory, pilot and plant based test work demonstrating how converting from forged steel (electrochemically active) to high chrome white iron (electrochemically inert) grinding media can alter the pulp and surface chemistry, which leads to an improvement in the metallurgical response of sulphide ores.

Key responsibilities
• Assisted the Downstream Processing (DP) team with laboratory and plant based studies investigating the impact of grinding media on downstream processing in base metal and gold operations globally.
• Organised visits to various mine sites within Australia to provide technical support for Magotteaux clients; includes nickel, gold, lead/zinc/silver, and copper circuits.
• This technical support involved sampling process streams within the grinding and flotation sections of the plant and monitoring the pulp chemistry (pH, pulp potential, dissolved oxygen concentration, temperature and oxygen demand).
• Technical reporting for laboratory and site based test work tailored to the requirements of the client, including statistical based analyses of grinding media plant trials.

Key achievements
• Magotteaux Sales Deal Award (July 2016): Providing technical assistance to the sales and DP team at Magotteaux Australia in the supply of 3000 tons of new grinding media to a copper/gold mining operation within Australia.
• Pulp Chemistry Literature Review (2016-2017): pH is very well understood at an industrial flotation scale and is generally the only chemical parameter measured in a grinding and flotation circuit. While the importance of Eh, dissolved oxygen, oxygen demand and EDTA extractable ion concentration are established and generally well known, a lot of the studies focus on singular minerals rather than real ore bodies and changes in an industrial flotation circuit. However, this is starting to change, especially over the last 20-30 years.

This paper looks to expand on this area and present the information in an easy to understand format.

July 2nd 2012-July 20th 2012 Vacation Student
Adelaide Brighton Cement, Angaston

Key responsibilities
Cement mill optimisation project; working as part of a team, I focused on improving the quantity of cement product discharged by the mill through physically inspecting the inside workings of the mill and performing subsequent optimisation calculations. Quality testing in the laboratory was also undertaken on various cement samples from the mill.

November 21st 2011-February 10th 2012 Vacation Student
Adelaide Brighton Cement, Angaston

Key responsibilities
Under supervision, focus primarily on process improvement within the plant to deliver economic benefit.

2010-2013 Private Mathematics Tutoring
Key responsibilities
Organised through Westminster School, I tutored two high school students in their mathematics studies.
