To be accepting and supportive of my students to help them through the difficulties they face with understanding and DEEP empathy. I have lived it. We are all different but we have many things in common that help me relate to Autistic students in a major way. I REALLY want to help Autistics become the awesome people I know the majority of us are capable of.
An Autistic teacher who would like to make a difference in the lives of Autistics. I have taught many subjects over 28 years and would like to help other Autistics with anything they need. I would concentrate on their favourite topics and try to help make a difference in their lives. I am 58 years old and have a DEEP understanding of Autistic issues.
I have taught many Autistic students and would like to think I have been a major positive role model for them. The majority have done EXTREMELY well in my classes and I have never had any behaviour issues
I would prefer those who that are "high functioning" (Aspergers) as I can relate to that better as that is what I am myself, but if you're OK with it, any others on the Spectrum.
I have taught Science, Geography, Maths, English, History and Commerce but I have a huge general knowlege and could help with most subjects if needed. But I'd prefer to find the things that interest them the most and makes them happy because a lot will become total experts at those things. Many will, hopefully, be able to make a career out of their huge knowledge and it should be encouraged. They could be the best the world has ever seen in some cases.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Ecology and a Grad Dip Ed in Education. I also started a Master of Science but did not finish as I had a few issues to do with my Autism at the time. I would really prefer it if I could give your kids the help they deserve which my generation never had, but some managed to overcome with great difficulty.
